Do you know when to call on one or the other?
This week, I want to highlight the Soul Power Life Area of Friends *in my Whodini voice*
In the past year, I have been repeatedly asked to clarify the differences between a friend and what I do as a Soul Power Coach™. I am both a friend and a coach to many people. Here’s a handy dandy guide to help you clarify when you might want to work with a coach or talk to a good friend:
A Coach is a professionally certified listening ear scheduled at regular intervals to help you learn how to be more focused, consistent, and accountable
A Friend listens as often as they can because that is what good friends do for each other
A Friendship is based on mutual support and concern
A Coach relationship is all about support and concern for what is important to you
A Coach partners with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential (This is the ICF Definition)
A Friend attaches to another person by feelings of affection, personal regard, mutual interests, and fun
A Friend may or may not keep the confidence of what you decide to share. A true friend can be trusted to do this. Often you will not know if they are a true friend until they show you otherwise
A Coach agrees to hold your confidence in the highest regard, creating a safe space for you to process your thoughts and feelings. This confidence is outlined in a client agreement
A Coach empowers you put systems and processes in place to help you achieve the results you want to create
A Friend makes great suggestions for what has worked for them or someone they know. They may even be willing to “walk with you” through building new habits
A Friend becomes and important part of your tribal circle of support
A Coach helps you assess and build your tribal circle of support
A Coach relationship is designed to end
A Friendship is designed to last
A good friend and a good coach both provide a soft safe place for you to land, hope, dream, heal, laugh, cry, & be yourself. If you are thinking of hiring a coach to be a friend, there are better ways to throw away your money. If you are using your friend as a coach, this may explain why they are sending your calls straight to voicemail.
If you are still not sure if you need a friend or a coach, call me and let’s talk about it 703.405.2029.
Love, Peace, & Happiness,
Adrienne, the Soul Power Coach™
