The Most Stubborn Person In Your Life

Who is the most stubborn person in your life?

I’m sure you have heard that everyone in our life is there for a reason, even if for just a season. Sometimes those people in our lives that irritate us are there to serve an important, maybe even painful, lesson about where we need to grow in ourselves. This week, I want to highlight the Soul Power Life Area of Personal Growth.

So today, let’s focus on lessons from that stubborn person in your life. There might be several names that come to mind. All the better! Take a moment to respond to the follow questions about this person- or persons collectively- as we identify some of the lessons they are here to teach us.

What makes them a stubborn person?

Do they they identify with being stubborn or do they consider their stubbornness to be something else?

How can you tell when they are being stubborn?

What bugs you the most when they are being stubborn?

How do you deal with them when they are being stubborn?

Would their life be different if they were not so stubborn? How?

What is the biggest reason for them to stop being so stubborn?

Did you record your answers? I hope so. If not, take a moment to respond to each question now.

You see, here’s the thing about stubbornness or any other emotion that we see showing up in others:

What We See In Others Is A Direct Reflection of Our Own Self

A person wiser than me said that the opposite of love is not hate. It is indifference.

What part of how you described that person also describes you on some level? [See Answer Below]

Perhaps the reason that person came into your mind is because the part of them that you described resonates with something inside you. Something about who you are now, something about who you use to be, or something you desire to become is sensitive to the commonality. Game recognize game so to speak.

You might be ready to accept that. Or you might not – we know how stubborn you can be. (<<First Name>> see what I just did there?)

The bright side of this is that stubborn people, like us, know how to be determined, consistent, tough, and we know what we think we want.

The not so good news is that our stubbornness usually comes hard at us with rational thinking and good excuses to create toxic levels of self sabotage and resistance, discouraging us from living with purpose and unspeakable joy.

Stubbornness comes from that part of you that wants things to be safe, secure, familiar, and predictable. For better or worse, it wants you to stay right where you are limited by your fears, pride, and competitive self. Stubbornness can be stubborn even when it knows there is a better way.

I invite you to consider your responses and find new ways to deal with your stubbornness for the very reasons you listed above.

Today, make the decision to use stubbornness as a signal. When you recognize yourself being stubborn, make a conscious decision to stretch into something new like courage, collaboration, or creativity. Will you do this? Was this insightful? I hope so!

Oh, Maybe THAT’s Why You’re Not Getting Results!

Have you ever noticed how the positive energy of one person can shift the mood in the entire room? You know the people you just want to be around. Maybe it’s the one you love or your really funny coworker. You have felt your own energy (mood) lift just being in their presence. We are all made up of energy that attracts and repels people and things into our life. It’s a cycle of positive cause and effect. What are you attracting and repelling?

Ideally, it works with your Soul Power Life Area of PERSONAL GROWTH this way:

Your Constructive Thoughts are creating your Positive Energy, your Positive Energy is creating your Powerful Beliefs, your Powerful Beliefs are showing up as your Productive Actions, your Productive Actions are reinforcing your Constructive Thoughts.

Far too often, our cycle actually looks more like this:

Your Destructive Thoughts are creating your Negative Energy, Your Negative Energy is creating your Defensive Beliefs, Your Defensive Beliefs are showing up as your Unproductive Actions. Your Unproductive Actions are reinforcing your Destructive Thoughts. Wow, maybe THAT’s why you’re not getting results.

  • If you really want to do something in any of your life areas but you’re frustrated because you just don’t know why you are not doing it already,
  • If you’ve been working so hard to reach a purposeful goal but you know you keep getting in your own way,
  • If you started out with loads of enthusiasm for that fantastic idea and now you wonder how it was replaced with overwhelm,
  • If you find yourself saying that you “Should” or “Could” or “Would” be doing “ABC” if only “XYZ” wasn’t so

It is very likely that you have underlying beliefs that are directly blocking your intended results like an All-Pro NFL Linebacker. These beliefs are the unwritten rules or programming code to your game plan. I hope this begins to make sense when you know that about

95% of Your Thoughts Are Coming From the Underlying Beliefs that You Hold in Your Subconscious Mind

No wonder, like Tevin Campbell sings “We go round and round and round And what we’re looking for, still isn’t found”

Unfortunately, those beliefs will continue to directly conflict with what you really want and block you from your intended results until you rewrite your rules by creating a new game plan that your subconscious linebacker will understand.

Just trying harder or getting more motivated or being extra positive isn’t going to resolve that conflicting belief. Pep talks, platitudes, organization and discipline will do very little to help you here. It’s just trashtalk and you’re still gonna get blocked.

So, what’s blocking your results?

I am challenging you to begin noticing how those underlying rules may not be serving your purpose and are blocking your results. Simply using tools like your life purpose, Soul Power Life Area Cards, and your own wisdom from Powerful Purposeful You, you can begin to pinpoint that negative energy and begin replacing the plays that are creating that unproductive cycle. Even the most stubborn and persistent rules can be rewritten when you target those underlying beliefs with the right energy shifting game plan.

This week, will you begin pay attention to where the productive or destructive beliefs are showing up in your life? I hope so!

Please let me know if you would like some help with this challenge. I want you to learn how to do amazing things with your purpose, wisdom and power!

Your Friend or Your Coach

Do you know when to call on one or the other?

This week, I want to highlight the Soul Power Life Area of Friends *in my Whodini voice*

In the past year, I have been repeatedly asked to clarify the differences between a friend and what I do as a Soul Power Coach™. I am both a friend and a coach to many people. Here’s a handy dandy guide to help you clarify when you might want to work with a coach or talk to a good friend:

A Coach is a professionally certified listening ear scheduled at regular intervals to help you learn how to be more focused, consistent, and accountable

A Friend listens as often as they can because that is what good friends do for each other

A Friendship is based on mutual support and concern

A Coach relationship is all about support and concern for what is important to you

A Coach partners with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential (This is the ICF Definition)

A Friend attaches to another person by feelings of affection, personal regard, mutual interests, and fun

A Friend may or may not keep the confidence of what you decide to share. A true friend can be trusted to do this. Often you will not know if they are a true friend until they show you otherwise

A Coach agrees to hold your confidence in the highest regard, creating a safe space for you to process your thoughts and feelings. This confidence is outlined in a client agreement

A Coach empowers you put systems and processes in place to help you achieve the results you want to create

A Friend makes great suggestions for what has worked for them or someone they know. They may even be willing to “walk with you” through building new habits

A Friend becomes and important part of your tribal circle of support

A Coach helps you assess and build your tribal circle of support

A Coach relationship is designed to end

A Friendship is designed to last

A good friend and a good coach both provide a soft safe place for you to land, hope, dream, heal, laugh, cry, & be yourself. If you are thinking of hiring a coach to be a friend, there are better ways to throw away your money. If you are using your friend as a coach, this may explain why they are sending your calls straight to voicemail.

If you are still not sure if you need a friend or a coach, call me and let’s talk about it 703.405.2029.

It’s Time To Tell the Truth!

How honest are you?

Not with others, with yourself.

This week, I’m in a real playful mood so let’s test your Soul Power Life Area SPIRITUAL with a game.

Here’s how you play:

I’m going to list several statements below. Read each statement out loud and with conviction.

Your spirit is going to show you which ones you believe to be true and which ones you actually do not believe.

Pay attention to which statements feel like a lie. You may even find your inner talk arguing with yourself. Any reaction aside from agreement is statement to think about. Ready?

I am worthy

I am more than enough

I am whole, perfect, and strong

I am so brillant

I am accomplished and successful

I am totally deserving

I am beautiful (handsome) and I love my body

I already have everything I need in my life

I am fully supported

I am incredibly wealthy

I have a responsibilty to myself and others to share my gifts

I am joyful beyond words

I pay attention to my intuition

I am loved for exactly who I am

I trust my own wisdom

I am having fun today

I am getting better everyday

I am lovable exactly the way I am

My needs are important to me and others

I can have what I want

I handle challenges with ease

I accept who I am

I make powerful purposeful decisions

I love myself unconditionally

There is nothing in my way of success

I am understood and accepted

I am provided for by sharing my gifts with the world

I am healthy and strong

I am always in the right place at the right time

I have a unique purpose

My life is beautiful

I live with high levels of peace and joy each day

What statements feel true? Which statements felt like a lie? Were there any statements that you had trouble even saying out loud? What did you inner talk say while you were going thorough this list? Did you notice any physical reactions to saying these statement? Which statements caught you by suprise as truth? Which ones were a breeze to believe? Which one really gave you the most trouble?

People who live consistenly within their Powerful Purposeful Self are on a path of completely accepting each of these statements as the absolute truth. How did you do? Is there room for improvement? Where could you be in the next 30 days? The next 6 months? The next 5 years?

How will you get better? If you really struggled with some of these statements, I invite you to come talk with me about what you can do about it. If you would like some help getting through this list with confidence and certainty, I have some tools that will help.

Will you share this game with one of your friends? I hope so!
